Day Out with the Kids! Top 5 Places to Visit

It’s the season of the year again – the school holiday!

Some kids may be complaining about being bored as they are stuck at home all day and night, while parents may be struggling to find something for their children to do. We know how tough it is for both sides – so why don’t take your kids for one or two day-out during the holiday? Our country has so many vibrant sights to see and fun things to do – from aquariums, theme parks, learning centres, and animal farms to zoos. Hesitate no more! Here are some kid-friendly places for you and your family to have a great time.

    1. Farm In The City (FITC), Selangor
Farm In The City is a new concept farm that combines elements of wildlife and nature in a designed environment of a conservation park. It is designed to rebuild a typical Malaysian village or ‘kampung’ style – making it a great place for both fun and educational purposes!
There are many visitor attractions in the FITC such as the reptiles’ cavern and the pet village. Kids get to have a close-up view of the reptiles, pet and feed the rabbits and guinea pigs with fresh vegetables.
    2. KL Bird Park, Kuala Lumpur
KL Bird Park is home to nearly 3,000 local and foreign birds from around the world. It is located 10 minutes drive time away from the Kuala Lumpur city centre. The park is divided into 4 zones – with Zone 1 & Zone 2 as the free-flight zones; Zone 3 as Hornbill Park and Zone 4 as the mini aviaries. The most exciting feature is that in Zone 1, 2 and 3, birds are free to fly around in the aviary and breed naturally in the environment. Your child will surely enjoy watching the colourful and melodic birds perching and winging everywhere! There is even an Education Station where kids get to watch how chicken and duck eggs are incubated and learn about the life or habits of Malaysian birds.
    3. Petrosains Discovery Center, Kuala Lumpur
Are your children curious about everything around them all the time? The Petrosains Discovery Center is the best place for them!

It is a wonderful and fun-filled place for kids to learn science in a new way. The centre is organized into 11 main interactive showcases with a straightforward museum-style layout. There’s a ride called Dark Ride, which is an oil drop shape that will take you through the tranquil rainforests of Malaysia. Dark Ride brings your up to the mountains and down into the sea to show you Malaysia’s transformation and its advancement into the new millennium. The centre is perfect for countless hours of studying and having fun. The centre is located on the fourth floor of PETRONAS Twin Towers, which is in the heart of the city too!

    4. Orangutan Island, Perak
The largest rehabilitation and conservation facility for orangutans is located at Orangutan Island, which is located in the centre of Bukit Merah. One of the most educational and intriguing things to do will be to take a tour of this amazing jungle, which is the home habitat of the endangered species. The orangutans at Orangutan Island are free to roam around the place while people will pass through a caged tunnel to see the orangutans that are roaming outside – how cool! Children will be having an opportunity to see many orangutans up close and even better, explore the orangutan nursery where you can watch, feed and play with baby orangutans. It is definitely an educational outing that’s family-friendly!
    5. Entopia Butterfly Farm, Pulau Pinang
Know a young nature lover? The Entopia Butterfly Farm at Penang is the best spot for them! It is the biggest butterfly garden in Malaysia with approximately 15,000 magnificent free-flying butterflies and insects.

There are two separate sections at the farm: The Natureland and The Cocoon. The Natureland is a living garden vivarium with up to 60 species of butterflies and more than 200 species of plants while the Cocoon is a two-floor indoor discovery centre. There are many learning exhibitions and indoor activities that children can join. Here, your little one can take part in releasing newly-emerged butterflies, joining a fun-filled guided tour and discovering the interesting lives of our amazing animal friends!

There are many more attractions around the country that are suitable for families with kids! Do discuss with your little ones to decide which attraction to visit. Make sure you check the weather forecast and the operating hours before visiting! Operating hours may differ due to the unpredictable weather in Malaysia. Be sure to practice good hygiene, and social distancing and adhere to the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) set by the Ministry of Health (MOH). Wear a face mask and wash your hands often!
